When I switch on the telly there is hardly a day without any information about the economic crisis in Europe. Starting in Greece and spreading to Spain, Italy and other European countries, people in Germany feel uneasy and are worried if the politicians are able to sort things out. Greece may be a country far away from Germany, but I think it has become quite clear that all European countries or western industrialized countries are so closely linked in terms of their economies that the downfall of one country can make the whole European monetary union break apart. Despite chancellor Merkel's desperate soothing attempts - Germany needs Europe and Europe needs Germany and if we pull together we will surely find a solution - the people in Germany seem to have lost their faith in politicians and their promises. Fact is that nobody knows how things will turn out, fact is that nobody knows if Greece will be able to pay back all its debts and fact is that nobody knows what will happen if countries like Germany or France are downgraded by rating agencies. Especially people who have saved money their whole life to make a living after having retired are worried. They are concerned because they don't know if money itself will lose its worth. Some people are really fond of investing their money in gold or real estate. I don't know how thing will develop. But I know one thing for sure. We've taken anything for granted for a very very long time, and the time will finally come when the people have to go  back to basics and have to go without some luxuries.  We - that means not only average people, but primarily states and banks - have lived beyond our means and the time will come when the entire system will collapse. You can't finance an average household, an average company or an average state by making more and more debts...

Im from Costa Rica but... It's very sad what those  people are going throuht LIBYA: Is NATO killing those it’s supposed to protect? Russian foreign minister argues that due to foreign intervention, civilians are dying on both sides of the conflict..

In Europe particulary in France since several years there had a high increasing of oil. It would seem than forecast from specialists are more and more confused and even all the governments and scientists don't know what is the real ressources.

Recently I heard from Jean-Marc Jancovici if in West we haven't the possibility to use electricity over a few months. They claim it will have millions victims during this period. As you know we depend from fossil energies mostly these one are used by countries developped.

I'd like to know if political parties in your country have already debated on it and if people seems concerned.

Paul Yarrow, a 42 year old man from South London seems to know where the TV cameras will be all the time and the TV networks are annoyed.

'Paul Yarrow — star of BBC1, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News and even the Qatar-based Al Jazeera network — has appeared on television more than 100 times this year. The only problem is that the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News and Al Jazeera don’t want him to be there.

What they want is for their TV reporters to be left in peace. What they don’t want is Yarrow — a balding, fat man who often wears a wrinkled white sweater — popping up behind their star correspondents, distracting viewers from the Very Important News that they are trying to deliver.'

A headmaster posed nude for his students when the model failed to turn up at an art class in China.
The incident has created a stir at Zhongshan School of Arts and Science in Nanjing.

Yang said it was nothing to be ashamed of, adding that he would do it again if necessary.

On Monday, headmaster Yang Linchuan, 43, walked into a classroom and told the students that their male nude model could not turn up for the session.

And just as the students were talking and expressing of their disappointment, the headmaster asked if anyone in the class could take up the model's place.

None of the students volunteered. Yang then took off his clothes and posed for the 20-odd students, including about eight females.

Yang is a famous musician and artist. His oil painting is among the masterpieces being displayed at the United Nations pavilion in Shanghai Expo 2010.

A student posted the news and Yang's nude photographs on the Internet on Thursday. Just within four hours, the article attracted more than 5,500 visitors.

Some netizens have praised Yang's body, saying that it was as fit as an athlete's.

"It's an art," commented one viewer.

"He looks a bit nervous and shy but appears to have adapted to it," said a student.

"When he (the nude headmaster) stood next to me, my face turned red," another student wrote.

In an interview with Henan Shangbao, Yang said the students' money and time would have been wasted if he cancelled the class.

"I had to do it since no one volunteered," he said, adding it was the first time that he had posed as a nude model.

Yang said it was nothing to be ashamed of, adding that he would do it again if necessary.

A Chinese boy was born with a double face, making it look like he is wearing a mask.

On May 17th, 2010, the mother Yi Xilian said with great agony in a local Hospital in Changsha, Hunan province, that her 1-year-and-2-month-old son Kang Kang is suffering from a congenital facial cleft, and his mouth is cracked up to his ears.
so sad
Mother Yi Xilian and her husband used to work together in an electronics factory in Huizhou, southern China's Guangdong province. However, since she was pregnant Yi quit her job to go home and wait for the birth.
On March 4th, 19 days before the estimated birth date, Yi gave birth to Kang Kang, who weighed 4.62 lbs.
"My family didn't allow me to see my son at the beginning, and I pleaded with my husband to let me have a look. Before they passed me the baby, they told me 'don't be sad, don't be sad', but when I saw my son, I collapsed," said a crying Yi.
Yi said during pregnancy she had three pregnancy checkups in Xiangxiang City Women and Children's Hospital, but doctors told her that the results were all normal.
Professor Wang Duquan of 163 Hospital said there are many possible reasons, like disease infection during embryo development, taking medications during pregnancy, and so on.
Professor Wang said it's the first such case he ever met. "It's different from a cleft lip or cleft palate; it's a facial cleft. Not only his face muscles are cleft, but the inside bones are cleft."
Professor Wang said judging from the current situation the boy is only suffering from the facial cleft, and his intelligence should be normal.
Mother Yi said during pregnancy she didn't take any medications except some abortion prevention agents prescribed by the doctors at Xiangxiang Women and Children's Hospital.
Yi said 20 days after the birth she took Kang Kang to visit a big hospital in Changsha, where doctors told her that the surgery would cost at least 300,000 to 400,000 Yuan. "We couldn't afford such a large amount, and the kid is already 1 year old and we couldn't wait any longer."
Professor Wang said Kang Kang at least needs to receive two surgeries.
The surgeries would sew up the clefts on the surface skin, the deep muscle, and then reconstruct the facial bones.
Professor Wang said they'll try their best to resume a normal look for the baby, but as they never met such case before, the results are unpredictable.

Google has decided to pull out of China and as of today, all traffic to google.cn and google.com (if you're in China) will be redirected to google.com.hk - where search results are unfiltered.

What does this mean for Android, Opensocial, Gmail and other Google services? Can Renren still benefit from running on Opensocial? Will Gmail be blocked? What will happen to Google partnerships with local companies? Will Android make it in China? Will China make clones of google services?

I'd like to hear from our Chinese friends in the community!! Write in Chinese if that works better for you!

If you haven't heard, there's been a huge change in the health care system in the US. You can read about what this means for Americans here.

What are your thoughts? Do you pay anything at all in your country to see a doctor? Do you have insurance? Have you heard of friends who've tried to use their insurance only to be rejected?

The winner of Miss Singapore World has been blasted for her lack of eloquence and tack. On 25 September, 2009, it was revealed that she had been convicted of credit card fraud in May, 2009, and was sentenced to two years' probation. She faced five charges of misappropriation, cheating using illegally obtained credit cards, and impersonating their users' identities prior to winning the title of Miss Singapore World 2009. After initially resisting calls to give up her crown, Ris Low voluntarily stepped down on 29 September, 2009.

After more than a week without a successor to fallen beauty queen Ris Low, pageant organiser ERM World Marketing has chosen second-runner up Ms Pilar Carmelita Arlando as the new Miss Singapore World 2009.

In a press release on Friday, ERM said it chose Ms Arlando, 20, over first runner-up Claire Lee because the latter had suffered an injury that did not allow her to stand for hours.

The decision came after weeks of controversy after Ms Low, 19, stepped down following a revelation she had been convicted of credit card fraud.

Ms Arlando, a hospitality diploma student, will represent Singapore at the Miss World finals in South Africa in December.

The latest news from Brazil are the Olympic Games.

Many people liked, but are concerned about the money that is spent with all the preparation. Brazil is a country that needs many other things, as health, safety and education. Many politicians are corrupt and can benefit from the games.

A U.S. student on Tuesday killed a recidivist burglar with a samurai sword, slicing off his left hand and severely cutting his neck after he spotted the intruder in his garage, police said.
The undergraduate medical student at Baltimore's prestigious Johns Hopkins University was being questioned by police but he may not be charged if found to be acting in self-defense. Samurai swords are legal in the United States.

nasaNASA says astronomy is forever changed, thanks to new state-of-the-art equipment aboard the Hubble Space Telescope.

The space agency unveiled detailed new images of galaxies far and near on September 9. It said the major upgrade to the telescope in May was a complete success.

This image of what appear to be butterfly wings were taken by the upgraded Hubble Telescope.

The areas that resemble wings are actually folds of gas reaching temperatures of more than 19,000 degrees Celsius. The gases are released by a dying star that was once five times the mass of the Earth's sun.

The Hubble Telescope's new and repaired cameras captured several images.

The telescope was upgraded by astronauts during a billion-dollar mission in May.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden is a former astronaut who piloted the space shuttle that put Hubble in orbit 19 years ago.

"After almost 20 years of service, our view of the universe, and our place within it, will never be the same," Bolden said.

Pictures of galaxies and nebulas (clouds of gas and dust) are sharper than photos taken by Hubble before the upgrade.

"This is nature's telescope," scientist Dave Leckrone explains. "This is taking the power of Hubble and enhancing it tremendously with gravitational lensing so that we can actually study detailed structures and galaxies, that are incredibly far away."

Leckrone said since the repairs, there have not been any technical problems with Hubble. nasaThe first photos from the repaired telescope came in July, when it took pictures of Jupiter after an asteroid or comet struck the planet.

Research scientist Heidi Hammel called the improvements a major step for space research.

"With this new beginning for Hubble, we can now see more clearly, and understand more deeply the processes that create, and shape and drive change within our universe," she says.

NASA says the new instruments can complete observations in a fraction of the time that was needed with earlier generations of Hubble equipment.
